WASHINGTON -- Thousands of Microsoft Outlook users reported issues with accessing and using the email platform Monday morning.

Microsoft 365 outage and problem reports peaked at almost 18,000 shortly after 11 a.m. Eastern Monday morning, according to outage tracker Downdetector. Reports have appeared to significantly decline since then.

Most of the reports expressed issues with Outlook. Many users of Microsoft's emailing platform shared frustration on social media, with some noting they were unable to sign into or load their accounts.

The company said that it was “investigating an issue with accessing Outlook on the web” in a thread posted on its Microsoft 365 Status account — and added that a “downstream impact” was also identified for Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business.

Microsoft 365 Status later said it had reverted an update and saw an improvement in service — soon confirming recovery for impacted services.

In a statement sent to The Associated Press Monday afternoon, Microsoft said it had “resolved an issue preventing users from accessing some of our services.”

Long-awaited Microsoft Paint refresh finally adds a dark mode option

Highly anticipated: After almost killing the iconic Windows graphics editor, it appears Microsoft is finally set to release Paint's first significant overhaul in over a decade. In addition to dark mode and improved zoom controls, the update brings a range of minor interface tweaks.

Windows Insiders are set to witness the first substantial update to Paint in years this week. The update introduces a dark mode to the app and enhances usability in various other aspects. Much like other Windows built-in applications, Paint's dark mode will be activated based on the user's system setting by default. Additionally, the app will include a settings screen where you can manually toggle dark mode and adjust other features.

Another improvement gives users more granularity when using the zoom slider by allowing the input of custom values in the zoom percentage field. A new fit-to-screen function will automatically resize images to match the window size, a feature that is commonly found in most PDF viewers.

Moreover, Paint gains additional keyboard shortcuts and better access keys. Microsoft has also redesigned dialog boxes to align them with the rest of the Windows 11 interface. Insider build experiments don't always make it to public branches of Windows, but the Paint updates will likely do so sometime this year.

Microsoft first hinted at updates to Paint in 2021, showcasing a dark mode and other interface modifications. This update marks a resurgence for the long-standing Windows staple, which seemed to be approaching its end-of-life phase. Back in 2017, Microsoft announced that it would discontinue the development of Paint, shifting it from a pre-installed program to a free Microsoft Store download.

Another image-related update for Windows Insiders introduces an innovative way for users to transfer and view photos from their phones. Build 23471 incorporates an "Add Phone Photos" button into the command bar located at the top of the File Explorer window. This button initiates the setup process for a wireless link.

Upon clicking the button, a URL and QR code are displayed. Scanning this code with a phone enables users to view the phone's photos in File Explorer without needing to connect the device via USB. A senior program manager at Microsoft has confirmed that this feature is compatible with both iPhone and Android phones. Additional updates in build 23471 include support for European and Latin American Spanish language in Natural Narrator and the capability to detach or merge File Explorer tabs.

The 13 Best Free PDF Editors (June 2023)

Use these PDF editors and online tools to change your PDF files absolutely free

Westend61 / Getty Images © Provided by Lifewire Westend61 / Getty Images

Looking for a truly free PDF editor that lets you not only edit and add text but also change images, add your own graphics, sign your name, fill out forms, and more? You came to the right place: We've researched these types of apps to come up with a list of exactly what you're looking for.

Some of these are online editors that work in your web browser, so all you have to do is upload your PDF to the website, make the changes you want, and then save it back to your computer. That's the quick way—but do bear in mind that, typically, a web-based editor isn't as fully featured as its desktop counterpart, plus the file is exposed to the internet (which might be of concern if it contains sensitive content).

Because not all of these editors support the same features, and some are restricted in what you can do, remember that you can process the same PDF in more than one tool. For example, use one to edit the PDF text (if that's supported), and then put the same PDF through a different editor to do something supported in that program (e.g., to edit a form, update an image, or remove a page).

If you don't need to change the contents of the file but instead just need to change it to another format (such as .docx for Microsoft Word or .epub for an eBook), see our list of free document converters for help. On the other hand, if you have a file you created yourself that you want to save as a PDF file, learn how to print to PDF.

If you already own a modern version of Microsoft Word (2021, 2019, 2016, etc.), then skip all the suggested programs below: you have a great PDF editor at your disposal right now. Just open the PDF as you would any Word document, give the program a few minutes to convert the PDF, and then edit away. This also works in WPS Office and Google Docs.

What We Like

  • Lets you load the file from other websites.

  • Supports adding hyperlinks.

  • Includes a signature tool.

  • Lets you insert blank pages into the PDF.

  • Can remove pages from the PDF.

  • Supports whiting out parts of the page.

  • Can insert images and shapes.

What We Don't Like

  • Can be used on only three PDFs per hour.

  • Limited to docs with fewer than 200 pages.

  • Doesn't edit files larger than 50 MB.

Sejda PDF Editor is one of the very few PDF editors that actually lets you edit pre-existing text in the PDF without adding a watermark. Most editors only let you edit the text you add yourself, or they support text editing but then throw watermarks all over the place.

Plus, this tool can run entirely in your web browser, so it's easy to get going without having to download any programs. You can get the desktop version if you'd rather use it that way.

There are some differences between the online and desktop versions that you should know about. For example, the desktop edition supports more font types and doesn't let you add PDFs by URL or from online storage services as the online editor does (which supports Dropbox, OneDrive, and Google Drive).

Another neat feature is the web integration tool that lets PDF publishers provide a link for their users that they can simply click to automatically open the file in this editor.

All uploaded files are automatically deleted from Sejda after two hours.

This tool works no matter which operating system you use. Sejda PDF Desktop runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

What We Like

  • Edit text and add new text.

  • Everything is free (no paid options).

  • Signature and form tools.

  • Zero advertisements and watermarks.

What We Don't Like

PDFgear is a full toolkit for doing pretty much anything you could want to do with a PDF.

Beyond basic PDF viewing and full text editing are options to add a signature, convert the file to other formats, extract text, annotate and insert your own watermark, rotate and delete pages, add a password, compress the PDF, and more. You can even present the PDF as a slideshow if you want to.

Something we really like is the Extract Text tool. It lets you highlight any part of the page to pull out text into an easily usable text box so you can copy that content. This is great for lists and other situations where selecting PDF text is usually difficult.

This program runs on Windows and macOS.

What We Like

  • Edit existing text.

  • Built-in sharing via link.

  • Snap-in guides for precise editing.

  • Saves automatically as you work.

  • Lots of free storage.

  • Easy access to free elements, photos, and more.

What We Don't Like

  • Must make a user account first (it's free).

  • Mixes paid items with free options.

  • No easy way to white out text.

  • Doesn't retain formatting as well as some editors.

Featured Link: How to Use Canva

Canva is a very capable website for creating unique, high-quality designs. While you could create a project from scratch or a template, another way you can use its editing tools is on a PDF.

Unlike most free tools, Canva lets you fully edit text. Click into any text area to change what the text says and to adjust the font type, size, and color. You can also add hyperlinks to text and other objects, and special fonts are available to easily type out your signature.

Of course, because this is a full graphic design platform, it has a wealth of other tools so you can also edit images, add shapes, edit and build PDF pages, include charts, etc. If you have most of your media on another site like Google Photos or Dropbox, you can connect to those services to easily copy files into your PDF.

PDFs can't exceed 15 MB or 15 pages. When you're done, you can save back to PDF or choose from various image and video formats.

What We Like

  • Uses OCR to identify the text in the PDF.

  • Can import a variety of shapes and images.

  • Supports adding QR codes to the PDF.

  • Offers a portable version.

  • Frequent updates.

What We Don't Like

PDF-XChange Editor offers some great tools, but not all of them are free to use. If you use a non-free feature, the PDF will save with a watermark on every page.

If you stick to just the free features, however, you can still do some editing to the file and save it back to your computer.

You can load PDFs from your computer, a URL, SharePoint, Google Drive, and Dropbox. You can save the edited PDF back to your computer or to any of those cloud storage services.

There are lots of features, so it might seem overwhelming at first. All the options and tools are simple to understand, however, and they're categorized into their own sections for easier management.

One nice feature is the ability to highlight all the form fields so that you can easily spot where you need to fill in. This is really helpful if you're editing a PDF with lots of forms, such as an application.

Many of the features are free (like editing the text), but some are not. If you use a feature that's not covered by the free version (you're told which ones aren't free when you use them), the saved PDF file will have a watermark attached to the corner of every page. There's a comprehensive list of all the free features on the download page.

Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7 users can install PDF-XChange Editor. You can download it in portable mode to use on a flash drive or as a regular installer.

What We Don't Like

Inkscape is an extremely popular free image viewer and editor, but it also includes PDF editing functions that most dedicated PDF editors support only in their paid editions.

This is a very capable image editing program. If you're not already familiar with programs like GIMP, Adobe Photoshop, and other image editors, however, it's probably a bit advanced for you.

In the context of PDF editing, though, you should consider this software only if you want to delete or edit the images or text in the PDF. We suggest you use a different tool in this list to edit PDF forms or add shapes, and then plug that PDF into Inkscape if you need to actually edit the preexisting text.

You can install it on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

All the functions you need are available here: Edit text, add text, highlight and blackout items, include shapes and checkmarks, import the date and time, upload images, and add your signature. You can also rotate, delete, and add new pages to your document.

Files can be uploaded from your device or your Google Drive account. All edited documents can be saved back to a .pdf file.

What We Like

  • Everything is free.

  • Doesn't leave a watermark.

  • Edit existing text and erase or redact text/images.

  • Can add your own custom text to the PDF.

  • Supports highlighting anything on the page.

What We Don't Like

  • No easy-to-access undo button (but you can delete what you've done).

  • Can upload PDFs only from your computer (not Google Drive, etc.).

FormSwift's Free PDF Editor is a very simple online option that you can start using without even making a user account (although, you'll need one when you save).

It's as simple as uploading your PDF file to the website and using the menus at the top of the page to quickly perform some basic PDF editing functions before downloading it back to your computer.

For example, you can add circles, checkmarks, and "x" icons over any text; easily type, draw, or sign on the file; and insert your own images.

When you're done editing, you can download the file as a PDF file, print it directly to your printer, or save as a .docx document.

The .pdf-to-.docx conversion didn't work for every PDF that we tried, but in those that did convert successfully, the images were formatted nicely and the text was fully editable.

FormSwift's Convert Images to PDF page lets you quickly edit or sign PDFs from your phone by taking a picture of a document. You can then share or download the PDF when you're done. It's not perfect: Most things done through a web app are spotty. It does work, however, with a little patience.

You can upload Word documents and images to FormSwift, too, if you need to edit those instead of a PDF.

All operating systems can use this since it works online.

Draw is LibreOffice's flowchart and diagram program, but it also lets you open and edit PDFs. Use the File > Open menu to select the PDF you want to edit, and then zoom up to the text to select and change whatever you want.

One of the neat things about editing PDFs with this program is that it's made for creating and manipulating objects, so you can just as easily edit non-text things, too, like images, headings, colors, etc.

When you're ready to save, don't use the typical save option; go instead to File > Export As to find the PDF option.

It works with Windows, macOS, and Linux.

What We Don't Like

  • Can't edit existing text, unless you pay.

  • Limits the PDF size and page length.

  • Documents stored in your account remain there only for 7 days.

PDFescape has quite a lot of features. It's free as long as the document doesn't exceed 100 pages or 10 MB.

You can't truly change text or edit images for free using this editor, but you can add your own text, images, links, form fields, etc.

The text tool is very customizable so that you can pick your own size, font type, color, alignment, and apply effects such as bolding, underlining, and italics.

You also can draw on the PDF, add sticky notes, strikethrough text, put white space over anything you want to disappear, and insert lines, checkmarks, arrows, ovals, circles, rectangles, and comments.

PDFescape lets you delete individual pages from the PDF, rotate pages, crop out parts of a page, reorganize the order of the pages, and add more pages from other PDFs.

You can upload your own PDF file, paste the URL to an online PDF, and make your own PDF from scratch.

When finished editing, you can download the PDF to your computer without ever having to make a user account. You need one only if you want to save your progress online without downloading the PDF.

The online version works in all operating systems. There's also an offline editor that runs on Windows, but it isn't free.

One of the quickest ways to add images, text, shapes, or your signature to a PDF is with Smallpdf.

This website allows you to upload a PDF, make changes to it, and then save it back to your computer, all without needing to make a user account or pay for any anti-watermarking features.

You can open files from your computer or your Dropbox or Google Drive account.

Importing shapes is possible if you want a rectangle, square, circle, arrow, or line. You can change the object's main color and line color, as well as the thickness of its edge.

Text size can be small, regular, medium, large, or extra large, but you can't change the font type, just the color.

When finished editing the PDF, you can decide where you want it saved; to your device or your Dropbox account. You can also generate a share link that anyone can use to download the PDF. Something else you can do is run the document through Smallpdf's PDF splitter tool if you want to extract the pages.

After editing one document, you'll have to wait several hours to keep using the site, or upgrade/pay.

This site works with all operating systems that support a modern web browser.

What We Don't Like

This website is incredibly simple, which is good or bad, depending on what you're wanting it to do.

We add this PDF editor to our list because it lets you easily sign your name on any PDF. There aren't any extra features that get in the way, it doesn't put a watermark on your document, and it's just overall very easy to use if you just need a quick way to add your signature to a PDF.

If you want to, you can also include your written name and a date.

  • Supports combining several PDFs into one.

  • PDF pages can be cropped.

  • Can insert, extract, delete, and rotate PDF pages.

  • Editing embedded forms is easy.

  • Can password-protect the PDF.

What We Don't Like

  • Free version places a watermark on the PDF.

  • Requires large OCR feature download.

  • Must log in to save the document.

PDFelement is free, but with a major limitation: It places a watermark on every page of the document. That being said, the watermark is behind everything, so you can still see the content, and it's important to realize that it supports some truly great PDF editing features.

This program would be a truly free PDF editor if it weren't for the fact that the free edition will not save without first putting a watermark on every single page of the PDF.

Depending on what you'll use the PDF for, however, the features it supports might be enough for you to consider living with the watermarks.

When you're done editing, you can save back to PDF or any of the several other supported formats, including Word and other MS Office formats. To export or save, you have to have a Wondershare account.

Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS are supported.

PDF BOB is a free online PDF editor that requires no user account. Just upload your file, make the changes you need to, and then export it to PDF again to finish up.

There are several tools here, like a text option that lets you select a custom color and font type, an image picker, a colored pencil/marker, and a few shape tools.

It uses OCR to identify the text, so things like the strikeout and underline tool look great, and all you have to do is double-click the word you want to apply it to.

You can also use this website to delete pages from the PDF and add new ones to it. When you save, there's even a password option to secure the document.

When you're done editing, export to the PDF format or, if you log in, JPG and PNG. Files can be saved back to your computer or imported directly into Google Drive or Dropbox.

Although PDF BOB doesn't let you edit the PDF text, you can convert the PDF to a Word format to do so in a word processor.

How to remove watermark from a PDF in Windows 11/10?

In this post, we will show you methods to remove a watermark from a PDF document on your PC for free.

remove watermark from a PDF

How do I remove a watermark from a PDF for free?

If you want to remove a watermark from your PDF document for free, use a free PDF editing tool that lets you edit the consisting text. Apart from that, you can also use Google Docs to remove PDF watermarks for free. You have to open your PDF in Google Docs and then delete the watermark element. In this post, we have shared the detailed procedure to do so.

To remove a watermark from a PDF document on your Windows 11/10 PC, you can use the below methods:

  1. Remove a watermark from PDF in Google Docs.
  2. Use WordPad or Microsoft Word to remove a watermark from PDF.

1] Remove a watermark from PDF in Google Docs

You can use Google Docs to remove a watermark from a PDF document. Open the watermarked PDF in Google Docs in editable form, select the watermark, and then delete it. Let us check out the step-by-step procedure to do that in detail.

  1. Open your Google Drive.
  2. Upload a watermarked PDF document.
  3. Open PDF with Google Docs.
  4. Select the watermark element.
  5. Press the Delete button.
  6. Save the final PDF.

First, open Google Drive in a web browser and make sure you are logged into your Google account.

Now, click on the New button from the left side panel and then press the File Upload option. Next, browse and select the input PDF with a watermark.

Once the PDF is uploaded, select the three-dot menu button associated with it and click on the Open with > Google Docs option. The PDF will now open in Google Docs in editable format.

Next, select the watermarked image or text box in the PDF and right-click on it. From the context menu, choose the Delete option. Or, you can simply press the Delete key on your keyboard. The watermark will now be removed from your PDF.

In case you see a slight change in formatting, you can re-edit the document according to your requirement and format it.

When done, save the resulting PDF using the File > download > PDF document (.pdf) option.

So, this is how you can use Google Docs to remove watermarks from your PDFs.

See: How to remove Watermark in Excel sheet?

2] Use WordPad or Microsoft Word to remove a watermark from PDF

The next method to remove a watermark from a PDF is to use WordPad Microsoft Word. There is a trick that you can apply to remove the PDF watermark in Word. You first need to convert PDF to Word, open the converted document in WordPad or Word, delete the watermark, and then save it in PDF format. Let us discuss the process in detail.

First, you are required to convert the PDF document to Word format. To do so, you can use a free online PDF to Word converter tool like iLovePDF or Smallpdf.

Once you have converted the PDf document to DOC or DOCX file, open Microsoft Word or WordPad and open the converted document file. In my testing, I used the WordPad application. However, to preserve original formatting, we recommend you use the Microsoft Word application.

Now, select the watermark in the opened document and press the Delete button to remove it.

Finally, you can save the edited document file in PDF format. If you use WordPad, you will have to use the Print feature. In the case of Microsoft Word, you can click on the File > Save as option, choose the PDF format as output, and save the edited document in its original format.

Besides the above two methods, you can use a PDF editor tool that lets you edit the text and elements of a PDF file. But, in my research, I didn’t find a free tool that lets you do so. However, there are some paid applications like Soda PDF, pdfFiller, and more that you can use to remove watermarks from PDFs. You can also remove a PDF watermark using Acrobat.

I hope this helps.

Why can’t I remove a watermark from a PDF?

If you are unable to remove a watermark from a PDF, it is likely that the PDF is protected and the owner has restricted the editing action on the PDF. So, you have to first unlock the PDF document and then try removing the watermark from it.

Microsoft Office for Mac vs Microsoft 365

Many software distributors have shifted to a subscription model to reduce the barrier to entry and increase long-term customer retention. However, Microsoft still offers both a subscription model dubbed Microsoft 365 and a license model for its Office software.

Microsoft 365 Family and Personal

Customers can choose between a personal plan or a family plan for Microsoft 365. Both subscriptions include identical software, however, the family plan enables up to six accounts to access.

Subscribers get a suite of Office products including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook. They also get OneDrive storage, Microsoft Teams, and access to Editor, a grammar and spell checking tool.

The personal plan includes only 1TB of OneDrive storage while the Family plan gets 6TB of storage to share between the six accounts.

Microsoft Office Home & Student

This is the separate single-use license for Microsoft Office apps. It's a one-time purchase that includes downloads for Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint only.

When a new version comes out, for example, Microsoft Office 2022 after 2021, license owners will not get the update. They must buy the license each time a new version is released.

The Microsoft Office Home & Student license allows the purchaser to install the included software on one device, be it a Mac or PC. It costs $149.99 and includes 60 days of support.

Microsoft 365 Business

Businesses looking for Office apps have a few subscription options to choose from. There's Business Basic, Apps for business, and Business Standard.

Microsoft Office Business Basic is the lowest price at $5 per user per month. It comes with access to the web and mobile versions of Office apps like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook. It also includes access to Exchange, 1TB of OneDrive storage, and Sharepoint.

The Microsoft Apps for business subscription focuses on giving businesses access to the primary Office apps for $8.25 per user per month. It offers the premium desktop applications for Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook with 1TB of OneDrive. The PC-only apps for Publisher and Access are also included in the bundle.

The Microsoft Business Standard subscription is essentially a combination of the other two for $12.50 per user per month. It includes all of the cloud features of the Business Basic subscription with the premium desktop apps of the app bundle. You can compare the differences between the plans here.

Microsoft Office Professional

Like the Microsoft Office Home & Student license, the Microsoft Office Professional license is a one-time purchase for a single download of Microsoft's apps. This purchase includes desktop versions of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Publisher, and Access.

Customers must buy a new license after each new version is released. The Microsoft Office Professional license is available for PC and costs $439.99 and includes 60 days of support.

Commonly asked questions

Does Microsoft Office work on Mac?

Yes, there is a Mac version of each of the Microsoft Office apps available in the App Store. They are free to download but require an active Microsoft 365 subscription to use.

Is Microsoft Office Free?

What your PC will need to run Windows 11 | PCWorld – PCWorld

When you purchase through links in our articles, we may earn a small commission. This doesn’t affect our editorial independence.
Windows 11 is officially here, but Microsoft added some strict new hardware requirements for its next-gen operating system. Microsoft is working with PC makers to develop Windows 11-ready PCs, and you may be able to upgrade to Windows 11 for free with your existing PC—provided that it meets the new criteria.
Windows 11’s hardware requirements, in fact, have quickly become the most controversial aspect of Microsoft’s new operating system. We’ve listed the CPU requirements below, as well as the available Windows 11 upgrade options if your PC’s components do not conform to them. Microsoft has also published a multipage document listing the detailed hardware requirements of Windows 11 (PDF), along with new webcam and touchpad requirements that have been added.
Fortunately, if your PC doesn’t meet the hardware requirements, you’ll have several years to replace it, as Windows 10 will be supported until 2025.
Check out our Windows 11 superguide for comprehensive news, reviews, tips and more about Microsoft’s new operating system.
For Windows 10, the PC hardware requirements necessary to run it are relatively tame: a 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM (2GB for a 64-bit version of the OS), 16GB of storage, and a display capable of 800×600.
For Windows 11, you’ll need a more sophisticated PC. According to Microsoft’s list of PC hardware requirements for Windows 11, this is the first time that you’ll need a multicore processor to run Windows, though it won’t need to be that powerful: just a 1GHz, 64-bit processor with 2 or more cores. (Don’t worry about whether your PC includes a 64-bit chip, as virtually all PCs have included 64-bit processors since the 2000s.) There’s also a TPM requirement, which we’ll discuss below.
Windows 11 will require an 8th-gen Core CPU and above, according to the Windows 11 hardware requirements for Intel CPUs. A similar list of supported AMD processors on Windows 11 indicate that the Ryzen 2000 series and above is supported. Our performance testing of Windows 11’s Virtualization-Based Security feature shows a likely reason why those are the cutoffs. On the Arm side of things, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 850 and up are also supported by Windows 11
We’ve published a list of CPUs that support Windows 11, here. As of August 27, that list now includes the Intel Core X-series, the Xeon W-series, and the Intel Core 7820HQ, which features in the Microsoft Surface Studio 2. Microsoft has ruled out first-generation AMD Zen processors, however.
Eliminating older 7th-generation Core processors will certainly cut out a substantial portion of the PC market from a Windows 11 upgrade, though how many isn’t exactly clear. We’re already seeing Microsoft itself declare a substantial chunk of its Surface lineup ineligible for Windows 11 upgrades
You will also need more memory. Microsoft is increasing the minimum amount of RAM to 4GB, and requiring a far larger amount of storage—64GB—then before. That’s because the amount of storage required is, according to Microsoft, “highly variable.” The storage controller must meet the Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) 2.3.1 or higher.
Windows’ storage demand depends on what versions of Windows have been previously installed; the amount of storage already claimed by Windows; the size of your page file (also known as the swap file), which acts like a relief valve for your main system memory; and more. You’ll also need a DirectX 12-capable GPU, and at least a 720p display.
Finally, Microsoft publicized a couple of new requirements in its support document. New Windows 11 PCs (excluding desktops) shipped after January 2023 will be required to include a webcam, which Microsoft defines as “HD”—not 1080p, unfortunately, but just the same 720p webcams which ship with many PCs today. Microsoft also is insisting that all new Windows 11 PCs include a Precision touchpad.
Microsoft is also adding new, stricter security requirements for Windows 11. You will now need a PC that includes a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0, a security coprocessor that’s not present on all PCs. (What’s a TPM?) A TPM includes a hardware-based random number generator, and can issue cryptographic keys to protect your data. TPMs also authenticate hardware devices. (Microsoft and AMD announced a complementary technology called Pluton in late 2020, originally developed for the Xbox, though Windows 11 PCs don’t appear to require it.) Your PC must also support UEFI and be Secure Boot-capable.
Microsoft originally instituted both a ”hard” and a “soft” floor of specifications to run Windows 11, designed around the TPM module specification. In June, Microsoft eliminated the “soft floor” and made TPM 2.0 a minimum requirement. If your PC doesn’t include this TPM capability (or if it includes just the older TPM 1.2 specification), it will not be eligible for Windows 11 and will be considered unsupported. Fortunately, there are tools that can tell you whether or not your Windows PC is eligible for Windows 11.
There are two ways to determine whether your PC can run Windows 11.
The Trusted Platform Module app can tell you if your PC has a TPM 2.0 chip inside of it.
First, to figure out whether your PC contains a TPM, you can just ask it. If you type tpm.msc into your Windows 10 PC’s search bar, your PC will open the Trusted Platform Module Management app. You’ll then be to scroll down to the TPM Manufacturer information and see whether a TPM is installed, and whether it’s TPM-certified.
Second, Microsoft is providing a free app to determine whether your PC is capable of running Windows 11: the PC Health Check app. (Warning: That link begins a download of the tool.)
PC Health Check is already live on Microsoft’s site, and it’s worth downloading. It’s a small Win32 app that provides a summary of what’s on your PC. It also offers a one-click check of your PC’s capabilities at the top of the window, to see whether you can run Windows 11. Microsoft said on June 26 that it updated the PC Health Check app to provide more information about what would make a PC ineligible for Windows 11.
The PC Health Check app answers the question: can my PC run Windows 11?
There’s also a third-party, unsupported tool called WhyNotWin11, which is available on GitHub. WhyNotWin11 is not supported by Microsoft, and Windows SmartScreen will likely flag it if you run it. (Use at your own risk.) WhyNotWin11 was designed to provide even more granular information about your PC, and why it might not be eligible for Windows 11.
Originally, Microsoft drew a line in the sand and insisted that all PCs meet these hardware requirements. But the company is now quietly saying that older PCs will be able to run Windows 11, too, but only for a very short time.
“Unsupported” PCs must still meet some minimum specifications, which appear to include a supported 64-bit CPU, 4GB of memory, 64GB of storage, UEFI secure boot, graphics requirements and TPM 1.2, to run Windows 11.
Microsoft originally said that a PC that met these minimum requirements would be able to download a Windows 11 ISO file and run it, allowing unsupported PCs to run Windows 11 until the official release. But then Microsoft changed its tune: Yes, older PCs will be able to download Windows 11 ISOs, but won’t be able to receive Windows updates—an enormous security risk. Then, Microsoft also blocked unsupported PCs from even participating in Windows 11 Insider testing. Here’s the bottom line: you can still download Windows 11 via an ISO on an unsupported PC that doesn’t meet Microsoft’s hardware requirements, but your security risks will grow as Microsoft releases patches for the OS that your PC will not receive.
If you can’t run Windows 11, you have a few options. You can stick with Windows 10, which Microsoft will support until it’s “retired” in 2025. Or you can buy a “Ready for Windows 11” PC, which PC vendors will begin releasing later this year.  If all this discussion over the Windows 11 hardware requirements seems like too much bother, buying a new Windows 11 PC may be the way to go.
This story was updated on October 5 to mention Windows 11’s general availability.

How to download Microsoft Store Apps Without the Microsoft Store © Provided by MUO

Is Microsoft Store not working on your Windows PC? Are you using a corporate device that prevents you from accessing the Microsoft Store? If so, you might have trouble installing apps that are only available on the Microsoft Store. If that's the case, you might wonder: where else can you download Microsoft Store apps?

That's exactly what we'll cover today: how to download Microsoft Store apps without using the Microsoft Store. We'll also discuss the risks associated with this method, so you're aware of them before trying it.

How to download Microsoft Store Apps With Adguard

You can download Microsoft Store apps from third-party websites like Adguard, which is the easiest and most recommended method. This website provides old versions of the Windows operating system, Microsoft Store apps, and more. To download and install apps using Adguard, follow these steps:

  1. Enter the app name and the keyword "Microsoft Store" in your browser search bar. For example, "Evernote Microsoft Store."
  2. In the search results, click the webpage for the app on Microsoft Store. Always click on the official link rather than an advertisement or unofficial source.

In most cases, the file will install smoothly, but you may encounter errors about missing components occasionally.

For instance, you may receive an error stating that "Microsoft.VCLIBS.120.00.Universal is missing" during installation. To resolve this issue, go to the Adguard link generator and instruct it to retrieve the links to the components' files from the Microsoft server, as we did earlier. There, you'll find the missing component file, so download it.

After downloading, check whether the file has an ".APPX" extension. If it doesn't, rename it to include the extension. After that's done, reinstall the game file. This time everything will go smoothly.

Where Could You Find the Framework File if Adguard Fails to Source It?

Occasionally, Adguard may not retrieve the missing framework file from Microsoft servers. If this happens, what should you do?

The best way to work around this is to search manually for the files in the Adguard file retriever. When it fails to locate the files, you'll have to source those components or frameworks from other sources. Directly searching for them on your browser is another way to find them.

Let's imagine you're looking for a particular framework. You have to copy and paste its name into your browser. If you want your search results to come from an official source, you can include "Microsoft" with your query.

Hopefully, you will find the missing framework file and instructions on the Microsoft website explaining how to install it.

You can use third-party sources if you cannot find a specific component file or framework on the Microsoft website. Make sure you only use trusted resources when you do that.

What Are the Risks Associated With Downloading Apps With This Method, and How Can You Install Apps Safely?

Despite Adguard fetching links from Microsoft servers and having a good reputation, it is still a third-party service. Thus, it entails the same risks as downloading from any third-party source.

To reduce the probability of downloading malicious files, paste the URL of the app file into VirusTotal's URL scanner. This will assist you in scanning the files for viruses. This way, you can download them confidently, knowing they're virus-free.
